Update 6-11-2010:
At the April or May Council meeting Mission Council rep Jim Vincent brought up
the idea with pastor Rhonda's overwhelming support to create a display sales
kiosk area in the church to handle Free Trade-County Market sales. The thought
was also to handle other sales & fundraisers out of this area also.
Why this matters is that when we did not get any takers of our $100/pew idea
(except one), I placed an ad in craigslist to see what our response would be.
Lets say that it was eye opening. I found out that since our pews were plain-jane
and that they were cut down and only truly 5+ feet long, their value as pews was
questionable. Luckily Steve V. talked to one guy (Rich) who was interested in
them. Rich has done work for many churches taking pews and other stuff and
making them into something for the Church. He agreed to take our pews and make
the kiosk-sales-display case for us from our pews at no cost (he keeps the rest
of the wood). He also is going to make the beverage sales thing I have talked
about also and put it on coasters so we can move it around. He also plans on
making us a few Planter stands out of the ends of the pews.
So a week ago Tony, Will and myself took apart all the pews except for 2 of them
and Rich is now working on our projects! We have also pulled up the carpet
runner and that ran down the middle of the room.
After getting the pews out of there, Pastor Rhonda and I had an idea about
taking the raised area in the front of the room and put some couches and comfy
chairs up there and looking for either a electric fireplace or a gas fireplace
to be on the East wall. This will not interfere with the projection system and
create an area that would be conducive to small group and counseling sessions.
During other uses we can push the furniture toward the east or move it off to
use the raised area.
Our next step is to meet in the now empty room and go over our next steps (not
in chronological order):
